Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal civil war between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) under Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo ("Hemedti"). The war has partitioned the country: the SAF holds the north and east including Port Sudan, while the RSF controls most of Darfur and parts of Kordofan. This map shows the real territorial split on the ground.
