Military Presence in Syria — De Facto Map

Military Presence in Syria — Turkish Military Presence · Northern Syria border belt.

Interactive de facto map of the Turkish military presence in northern Syria. The border belt taken in the Turkish operations of 2016–2019 — Afrin, Azaz, Al-Bab, Jarablus, Tell Abyad and Ras al-Ain — returned to Syrian civil administration in stages after the fall of Assad, completing in January 2026. Turkish troops stayed: Ankara calls its outposts permanent and keeps over 20,000 personnel in the country under the December 2025 defence pact with Damascus. This map shows the belt as it is — Syrian-administered ground with a Turkish garrison.
