The Callipidae — Scythians.

The "Greek-Scythians" of the river-mouths about Olbia, dwelling where the Hypanis joins the Borysthenes near the sea. Long neighbours and trading-partners of the Greek emporion, they have grown half-Hellenised — they keep the Scythian ways of the steppe yet have taken on Greek speech, Greek goods and Greek manners from the colonists, a border-people standing between the grass and the Mediterranean world.
