Apollonia in 218 B.C.

Apollonia — Roman Republic › Roman Protectorates in Greece.

A flourishing Greek city on the Illyrian coast near the mouth of the Aoös, Apollonia received a Roman garrison and protection during the First Illyrian War (229 BC). Its harbour and its road inland made it, with Epidamnus, one of the two great gateways from Italy into the Balkans.
