Paestum in 218 B.C.
Paestum — Roman Republic › Latin Colonies.
Founded 273 BC on the Lucanian coast on the site of the Greek city of Poseidonia, Paestum guarded the Tyrrhenian seaboard south of Campania. Its loyalty ran deep: in the crisis of the Hannibalic war it offered Rome its temple treasures to pay for the fleet.
