Cosa — Roman Republic › Latin Colonies.

Founded 273 BC in southern Etruria on land taken from Vulci, Cosa was a coastal stronghold securing the Tyrrhenian shore and the sea-lane north toward Liguria. Its walls of polygonal masonry and its hilltop arx made it a model of the fortified Latin colony.
