Ager Romanus — Roman Republic.

The territory of full Roman citizens (cives optimo iure), centred on the city of Rome and Latium and extended by conquest and viritane settlement across Etruria, Picenum and beyond. Its people held the complete franchise: they voted in the assemblies, served in the manipular legions as a duty of citizenship, and paid the war-tax (tributum) levied on their property. Organised into the thirty-five voting tribes, this citizen body was the legal and fiscal heart of the Republic — the reservoir of legionary manpower on which every campaign drew.
