Syme — Rhodes › The Subject Islands.

A small, mountainous island lying close under the Knidian and Carian mainland north of Rhodes, midway between Rhodes and Cnidos. Few in number, its people live by the sea — by fishing, by shipbuilding and the building of fine fast boats, and by sponge-diving — and by the trade that passes through the channel under the naval umbrella that Rhodes casts across these waters. Pliny reckons it ringed with fine harbours.
