Mytilene (Lesbos) in 218 B.C.
Mytilene (Lesbos) — Ptolemaic Egypt › The Overseas Empire.
The chief city of Lesbos in the north-eastern Aegean, a wealthy old polis within the Ptolemaic naval orbit. Its harbours and its position off the Asian coast make it a useful friend and station for the fleet operating toward the Hellespont, and a link in the chain of sea-power that ties Egypt to the far northern Aegean.
