Lycia — Ptolemaic Egypt › The Overseas Empire.

The mountain-walled south coast of Asia Minor, east of Caria and facing Rhodes — the old cities of the Lycians, Xanthos and its harbour Patara, Limyra, Myra and their neighbours. Ptolemy II made it his in the 270s: Patara was renamed Arsinoe after his queen, and at Limyra a great Ptolemaion honours the dynasty. For the fleet it is a chain of harbours on the sea-road between Egypt and the Aegean, with timber and fighting men behind it, facing the Seleucid lands across the Taurus.
