The Thebaid (Upper Egypt) in 218 B.C.
The Thebaid (Upper Egypt) — Ptolemaic Egypt › Egypt — the Two Lands.
Upper Egypt, the long southern valley about Thebes — Diospolis Magna to the Greeks — and the colossal temple of Amun-Ra at Karnak. This is the proudest and most purely Egyptian land, dominated by the wealthy and ancient priesthood of Amun, and the least reconciled to Alexandrian rule. Within a decade the arming of native Egyptians will help kindle the great Theban revolt (207–186 BC) that tears Upper Egypt from the crown.
