Heptanomis (Middle Egypt) in 218 B.C.
Heptanomis (Middle Egypt) — Ptolemaic Egypt › Egypt — the Two Lands.
The "Seven Nomes" of Middle Egypt, between the Delta and the Thebaid. Its jewel is the Fayum — the Arsinoite nome around Lake Moeris — where Ptolemy II’s engineers drained marsh and lowered the lake to win vast new farmland, then planted it thick with Greek and Macedonian cleruchs settled on allotments in return for military service. It is the showcase of Ptolemaic land-reclamation and Greek colonisation in the countryside.
