The Liburni in 218 B.C.
The Liburni — Illyrian Tribes.
The great seafaring people of the northern Adriatic coast and its multitude of islands — the finest sailors of the whole sea. They are masters of the swift, light galley that bears their name, the liburna, a fast oared craft so prized that in later ages its very build will be copied for the war-fleets of Rome. Once the Liburni ranged and raided far down the Adriatic; in 218 they remain the foremost mariners of the northern coast.
