A numerous people of the great river-plain of the Savus, in the flat northern country where the Illyrian lands shade off toward the Pannonian peoples and the Danube beyond. Theirs is a country of broad rivers and marshes rather than the crags of the south — a populous lowland folk of the northern marches, far from the wars of the Adriatic coast.
