The Autariatae in 218 B.C.

The Autariatae — Illyrian Tribes.

Once, men say, the greatest of all the Illyrian peoples — a mighty nation of the Dinaric interior who lorded it over their neighbours and held the inland salt. But their glory was long broken: in tales of an older age a plague and a countless swarm of frogs were turned upon them after they marched against Delphi, and the people were scattered and driven from their homes. By 218 they are a shadow of what they were, a name of fallen greatness in the high interior.
