The Sequani — Celtic Tribes.

A people of the Jura and the upper valleys of the Saône and the Doubs, about their stronghold of Vesontio in its loop of the river. They hold the river-route of the eastern marches and the salt-springs of that country, and command the way between the great rivers and the Rhine — a strong inland nation far beyond the wars of Rome and Carthage, grown wealthy on the traffic of its waters and the salt of its hills.
