The fierce confederations of the far north, dwelling between the Sequana and the Matrona and the great river Rhenus — the Suessiones, the Viromandui and their many neighbours. Reckoned the most warlike of all the Gauls, they are the peoples nearest the Germani across the Rhine, and hardened by unending war along that frontier.
