Mallorca — Carthage › The Islands.

The larger of the Balearic (Gymnesian) islands — not a colony but a recruiting ground for the famed Balearic slingers, who served in every Carthaginian army. Trained from childhood to win their bread by the sling, they carried three of different lengths for short, middle and long range, and no light troops of the age were more feared.
