Carpetani in 218 B.C.

Carpetani — Carthage › The Iberian Client Tribes.

The people of the central Meseta about the Tagus, the largest of the interior confederacies. In 220 BC, when Hannibal returned laden with plunder from the Vaccaei, a great host of Carpetani gathered with Olcadian and Vaccaean fugitives to bar his path — and he destroyed them at the river Tagus, the masterstroke that made him master of Iberia north to the Ebro.
