Utica in 218 B.C.

Utica — Carthage › The Libyphoenician Cities.

The oldest Phoenician colony in Africa, founded by Tyre around 1100 BC — long before Carthage — and her closest and most privileged ally, the second city of the African dominion. Utica kept her own laws and her own walls, and in the Mercenary War her revolt had nearly destroyed Carthage; by 218 she stood loyal, the keystone of the home coast.
