Three great fortresses by which Macedon holds the Greek south in chains: Acrocorinth above the Isthmus, Chalcis on the Euripus, and Demetrias on the Pagasetic Gulf. So long as a king of Macedon garrisons all three, no Greek state can move; whoever would free Greece must first strike off these fetters — as Flamininus would proclaim in 196.
